The Competition Authority of South Africa approved on Thursday the merger of brewer InBev, a Belgian and Brazilian capital, with the British SABMiller.

"The Competition Tribunal approved the merger of giants Anheuser-Busch InBev beer (AB InBev) and SABMiller under conditions designed and take into account both the general interest and the rules of the competition," according to a statement from the South African justice .

The merger of ABInBev and SABMiller, announced late last year, has already received the approval of the European competition authorities, as well as fifteen equivalent authorities worldwide.

Africa, a continent where SABMiller is very well established, is a coveted market by AB InBev because of its young population.

This fusion between the first and second world breweries creates a global industry leader. Among the brands of AB InBev include Corona, Stella Artois and Budweiser. SABMiller has brands such as Miller, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and Grolsh.

The mega-merger through the acquisition of SABMiller by AB InBev was announced last November, amounting to 126.5 billion dollars, one of the largest acquisitions in history.

Together, AB InBev and SABMiller elaborate about 60 billion liters per year, or triple the current number three in the sector, the Dutch Heineken.
