The managing director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, said on Wednesday that a British break with the EU (Brexit) may have "some impact" on the US economy, but did not come to cause recession.
"It would have a certain impact. What range? This has to be discussed," Lagarde told a news conference on the US economy.
According to the managing director, the Brexit would impact especially in trade and financial sector with "a likely and inevitable appreciation of the dollar."
"This should not cause a recession in the United States," Lagarde said. However, she believes could generate increased trade protectionism.
"In many parts of the world have witnessed a certain rise in protectionism, not s growth bearer," he said.
"Protectionist measures are counterproductive to growth," he said.
