São Paulo - Microsoft will lay off 2,850 employees worldwide by the end of its next fiscal year in June 2017.A decision is contained in a company's report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC, its acronym in English).
The company did not specify which countries or sectors will occur layoffs. It is not the first time that the company dramatically reduces its staff.
Since last year, the company has laid off 7400 employees. The last cut was announced at the beginning of the year month and affected 1,800 jobs, mostly in Finland - where was the mobile phone unit Nokia acquired by Microsoft in 2013.
The cuts are part of the company's strategy to wipe spending your area of mobile devices. "We are focusing our efforts where we have differential telephony," said the CEO of the company, Satya Nadella said in a statement and May this year.
The first wave of layoffs mainly affect employees connected to the smartphone sector. Now the court must reach other sectors, although the company did not specify which.
Microsoft has about 114,000 employees. Most, 44,000, works in Washington state, where is the company's headquarters.
