Las Vegas - Apple said it plans to offer rewards of up to $ 200,000 to researchers who find critical security flaws in its products, joining dozens of companies that already offer payment for help in finding problems in their products.
The maker of iPhones and iPads gave details to Reuters about the plan, which includes some of the greatest rewards offered to date, before revealing the program on Thursday afternoon conference in Las Vegas.
The program will initially be limited to about two dozen researchers, that Apple will invite to help identify difficult security flaws to find out in five specific categories.
These researchers were chosen from the group of experts who previously helped Apple to find fault, but were not paid for the work, the company said.
The most lucrative category that offers rewards of up to $ 200,000, is for flaws in the firmware to prevent unauthorized programs from starting when a device with iOS system is turned on.
Apple said it has decided to limit the scope of the program recommended by other companies previously launched rewards programs.
These companies said that if they were to rerun their programs, begin inviting a small list of researchers and gradually the would open over time, according to Apple.
The security analyst Rich Mogull said limit participation prevents Apple has to deal with a series of fault claims of "low value".
