Washington - The journalist Arianna Huffington, co-founder of digital newspaper "The Huffington Post", announced on Thursday he would resign his post of chief editor of the publication to focus on his new project, Global Thrive, a company focused on health and well-being.

"I thought it would be my last HuffPost function. But I decided to resign as chief editor of HuffPost to start my new company, Global Thrive," Huffington said in his Twitter account.

Over the past weeks, Huffington held talks with investors to get funding for their new company, based in New York, focused on providing information and digital training to reduce stress and increase well-being.

The goal of Huffington is launching this new project before the end of the year.

"When I decided to create the Global Thrive, thought it would be possible to create the new company and continue as editor in chief of the Huffington Post. Today it is clear that this was an illusion," he detailed the journalist in a statement.

Born in Greece in 1950 and former wife of Republican Congressman Michael Huffington in 2003 was an independent candidate in the elections for governor of California in 2005 and created with other partners the digital newspaper "The Huffington Post".

Verizon telecommunications company is currently the owner of "The Huffington Post" over the internet service company AOL, which acquired the digital newspaper in February 2011.
