London - SABMiller paused the process of integrating operations with Anheuser-Busch InBev, while the board evaluates the improved offer made by rival, said the next two with the matter.

The pause in the work is not an indication of the board's tilt, said one of the sources.

Nevertheless, shares of AB InBev in the US fell 4 percent and Molson Coors, which will take over the US operations of SABMiller, fell nearly 7 percent.

The two largest breweries in the world announced the merger process at the end of last year and for months have engaged in preparations for the integration, the sources said, in order to facilitate the merger to be completed in the second half.

The agreement, however, was hit by investor discontent in recent weeks after the bid was less attractive after the sharp devaluation of the pound, following the decision by the UK to leave the European Union.

In an effort to appease investors, AB InBev, which also controls Ambev announced on Tuesday an improved offer by SABMiller.

SABMiller is currently meeting with shareholders to discuss the new proposal from rival before formal consideration by the board.

SABMiller and AB InBev have not commented on the agenda of the integration work. Molson Coors did not comment.
