IMF improves growth prospects in Latin America

Washington - The outlook from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Latin America in 2016 and 2017 improved slightly in the upgrade report that the institution presented on Tuesday.

The IMF assessed the improvement in the outlook for 2016 and 2017 in a tenth and reduced the contraction in Latin America this year to -0.4%, while increased growth in 2017 to 1.6%.

The improving outlook focus on the recovery of the Brazilian economy. The Fund improved the growth of the South American giant by five percentage tenths.

The revised numbers are located Brazil's growth in 2016 to -3.3% and 0.5% in 2017.

At the same time, the Mexican economy will improve growth in the years a tenth percent, up to 2.5%. In 2017, the prospects of the IMF to Mexico remain at 2.6%.

The upward revision of growth prospects for Latin America takes place in a context of worsening global projections as a result of the UK out of the European Union, known as "Brexit".

But the IMF also expressed concern about "the factors related to the climate and diseases such as virus zika, which is affecting the Latin America and the Caribbean."

The Fund downgraded today by a tenth percentage growth of the world economy in 2016 and 2017, to 3.1% and 3.4%, respectively.
